Senior Database Administrator

The kind of things you'd be doing:

  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of databases
  • Document database design through data modeling, review design to ensure optimized data environments
  • Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels and audit controls
  • Configuration planning and installation of mostly Postgres 9.x databases
  • Troubleshooting and resolution of database/server problems
  • Backup and recovery of local and remote replicated databases
  • Provide day-to-day support to 24 * 7 * 365 production systems as assigned
  • Provide DBA support to development/implementation projects as assigned, doing installations, database loading, conversions, testing
  • Prepare change control documentation
  • ​Administer database security, establish security controls, and conduct audits
  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for business continuity, disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of databases.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • University Degree in Computer Science 
  • 5 years equivalent work experience as a Database Administrator 
  • Working experience with PostgreSQL, Mysql, MongoDB, SQLServer SSIS/SSRS
  • Device configuration, installation, stored procedures & packages PL/SQL and sql script writing
  • ETLs and data loads, Replication & Standby databases, database re-build / de-fragment techniques, logical & physical backup / recovery techniques
  • Application side tuning and server side tuning
  • Strong understanding of all database structures, theories, principles, and practices
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers
  • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience
  • Experience with clustering, pooling, and load balancing would be considered an asset 
  • Experience Unix Scripting
  • Good analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Quick learner, with good interpersonal and communication skills
